Arcadia was founded on the belief that customers need and deserve superior service. In 1969, Jim Sumner, who sold metal for over 50 years, secured a small bank loan that allowed him to fill the trunk of his car with drill bits and taps. He began calling on small machine and metal fabricating shops – delivering a level of service the industry lacked, but his customers craved. Jim’s inventory quickly outgrew his trunk and soon his basement.

In 1976, Bill Sumner graduated from Siena College and joined his father. Together, they continued to grow Arcadia’s promise of unparalleled service and products. In 1982, after a tremendous increase in business, Arcadia moved into a spacious new facility, providing them with the capacity to become a full-fledged metal supply.

In 1992, Arcadia built a modern 20,000 square-foot facility to accommodate its continued growth. And with the encouragement of one of the world’s largest manufacturers, Arcadia expanded its services to offer waterjet cutting. This Fortune 100 Company continues to remain a satisfied customer, ranking Arcadia as one of only two “no-issue vendors,” noted as providing flawless quality and service that frequently exceeds all expectations.
